MR Imaging of a Cerebello-Pontine Angle Epidermoid Cyst with a Malignant Transformation: Case Report
نویسنده
چکیده
nial tumors and are histologically benign (1). A case of the transformation of an epidermoid cyst into a malignant squamous cell carcinoma has seldom been reported (2-7). The malignant transformation may have occurred from pre-existing epidermoid cysts or after the incomplete excision of an epidermoid cyst (5). The treatment of the malignant transformation of an epidermoid cyst varies from surgery or a combination of treatments such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy, however, patient prognosis is poor. The malignant transformation of an epidermoid cyst has characteristic MR imaging findings and a clinical course. We report the MR imaging findings of a malignant transformation of a cerebellopontine angle epidermoid cyst.

Medulloblastoma is quite uncommon in the adult population and even rarer in extra-axial site in cerebello- pontine (CP) angle. In this report, a 23-year-old male patient with a two month history of deafness, nausea, vomiting and ataxia is presented. Clinical and radiological findings demonstrated a heterogeneously enhanced extra-axial lesion in the right CP angle. Total excision was perform...

Background: Epidermoid cyst is an uncommon intracranial lesion. The most common location is the cerebello-pontine angle (CPA). Unusual locations include intra-ventricular, sellar and supra-sellar regions as well as extra-axial in the temporal region. Patients and Methods: Ten patients were retrospectively included in this study. All patients were diagnosed and treated in Zagazig University hosp...

A 58-year-old Japanese man suddenly suffered from vertigo. On physical examination, left-beating horizontal torsional spontaneous nystagmus was observed; the direction did not change with gaze. Other neurotological examinations revealed findings within normal limits except the left side sensorineural hearing loss of approximately 32 dB on average. Diffusion-weighted MRI revealed no infarction i...
متن کاملMalignant Transformation Six Months after Removal of Intracranial Epidermoid Cyst: A Case Report
Intracranial epidermoid cysts are uncommon benign tumors of developmental origin; malignant transformation of benign epidermoid cysts is rare, and their prognosis remains poor. We report a case of squamous cell carcinoma arising in the cerebellopontine angle. A 52-year-old man presented with left facial paralysis and cerebellar ataxia. He had undergone total removal of a benign epidermoid cyst ...
متن کاملMalignant Transformation of an Epidermoid Cyst in the Cerebellopontine Angle
Intracranial squamous cell carcinoma is extremely rare, with most of the cases arising from malignant transformation of an epidermoid or a dermoid cyst. The patient presented with facial weakness. Initial magnetic resonance imaging revealed a mass in the right cerebellopontine angle. A subtotal resection was performed via right retrosigmoid suboccipital approach. Histopathological findings were...
